Wellington District Court handles limited licence applications for the Wellington region. Applications can also be filed at the Hutt Valley District Court (Lower Hutt) or Porirua District Court depending on where your offence was dealt with.
Wellington: public transport considerations
Wellington has better public transport than most New Zealand cities, which means the court may scrutinise hardship arguments more carefully. However, having access to public transport does not automatically defeat a hardship argument. The court looks at whether public transport is a realistic alternative for your specific situation.
Tradespeople carrying tools, shift workers whose hours don't align with services, workers commuting to sites not on bus or train routes, and parents with school transport obligations may all have valid hardship arguments despite Wellington's public transport network.
Our approach for Wellington applications
Because Wellington has relatively good public transport, we take particular care in drafting hardship arguments for Wellington applications. Your affidavit must address why public transport is not a realistic alternative for your specific circumstances. We identify the specific gaps — route gaps, timing gaps, last-mile problems — that make driving necessary for you.
For $749 + GST, we prepare your complete application. Court filing fees and the NZTA reinstatement fee are separate.
