Limited Licence Lawyer Feilding

Limited licence application preparation for clients in Feilding and the wider Manawatu-Whanganui region.

Feilding is a prosperous farming town 20 kilometres north of Palmerston North, at the centre of New Zealand's most intensive dairy farming country. The town services a large rural catchment of farms, agricultural contractors, and support businesses. Public transport between Feilding and Palmerston North is limited; for the surrounding rural areas, it does not exist. Most Feilding workers need a vehicle to do their job. A driving disqualification is a direct economic shock.

A limited licence may allow you to keep driving for essential purposes while your disqualification runs.

Where do Feilding residents apply?

Feilding does not have its own District Court. If you were convicted and disqualified in Feilding or the surrounding Manawatū rural area, your limited licence application is filed at:

Palmerston North District Court 486 Main Street, Palmerston North 4410

For a full explanation of the Palmerston North District Court process and surrounding court network, see our dedicated Palmerston North page.

For demerit point suspensions, you apply at the court nearest to where you currently live — which for Feilding residents is Palmerston North District Court.

Who can apply from Feilding?

The test is extreme hardship to yourself or undue hardship to another person. In Feilding and the Manawatū rural district, hardship is the norm for any worker who depends on driving.

Applications from Feilding commonly come from:

  • Dairy farm workers on the Manawatū plains — farm work is entirely dependent on a vehicle
  • Agricultural contractors — silage, harvesting, cultivation, artificial insemination — who travel between farms across the Manawatū and Rangitīkei
  • Workers at the Feilding saleyards — one of the country's busiest livestock sale venues — operating to schedules that no bus serves
  • Tradespeople servicing the farming and residential communities across the Manawatū rural area
  • Workers commuting to Palmerston North for employment where the limited bus connection does not match their workplace or shift hours

Section 65 restriction: If your disqualification is for a serious alcohol offence or is a third or subsequent alcohol conviction, a limited licence may not be available. See our section 65 guide.

Demerit point suspensions follow a different process — no 28-day stand-down applies.

Public transport in Feilding

Feilding has a limited bus connection to Palmerston North, but the service runs infrequently. The surrounding Manawatu district — including Rongotea, Halcombe, and Kimbolton — has no public transport. Most rural residents rely entirely on driving.

Employment and industry

The Manawatu district is one of New Zealand's most productive farming areas. Dairy farming, sheep and beef farming, and crop growing dominate. Feilding's saleyards are among the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Many workers drive to farms and rural properties across the district. The construction and trades sector services the agricultural community.
